Rotarians loading books and knitting for transport to Donations in Kind

Donations In Kind (DIK) is the program whereby Rotarians and Rotary Clubs source surplus goods and products within Australia that have no further use here. However, these goods are often invaluable to those in needy countries and/or can be used to support Rotary projects in developing countries.

Rotary Drought Relief

Hay to the value of $25000 was purchased using Rotary funds from 5 Rotary clubs (Port Pirie, Mawson Lakes, Burnside, Campbelltown and St Peters).

Transport was donated by a number of trucking companies along with some other staples which were distributed to local families on the day.

Distribution at Yunta was organised by Tim Taplin, Elders, Peterborough with catering on the day supplied by the Yunta Racing Club. Each Rotary club which donated funds was represented at Yunta on Saturday.

The genesis and primary driver for the hay drop came from Lisa and Peter Vassallo from Adelaide through their self-organised charity, Helping SA Farmers. A wonderful effort by this couple.

The local seasonal situation around Yunta remains very grim- this is the fourth year of drought and discussions with the locals reveal a pretty desperate situation. While the hay won't last long, it will provide a few weeks respite in feeding the few stock that remain. If nothing else, it provided a much needed and well received morale boost for a community doing it pretty hard.

Our contribution to the project of $5000 will be meet from RAWCS through the SA Rotary Drought Relief Fund organised through PDG Bob Cooper from Burnside club.
